ITINERARY AND HIGHLIGHTS
DAY 1 – Tuesday 14 April
Arrive in Auckland, meet and greet at the airport, then transfer to our tour vans for a drive around Auckland – NZ’s largest city. Local sight seeing and attractions such as One Tree Hill, St Helliers Beach and Kelly Tarltons Underwater World - http://www.kellytarltons.co.nz with the night at the Manukau Top 10 Holiday Park.
DAY 2 – Wednesday 15 April
Travel south from Auckland to Waitomo via Hamilton and Otorahunga Kiwi Park to the limestone caves. Go black water rafting - Black Water Rafting Company Black Labyrinth tour - http://www.waitomo.com/cave-tubing.aspx Stay the night at the Waitomo Holiday Park.
DAY 3 – Thursday 16 April
Travel south and east to Lake Taupo via Huka Falls for lunch on the lake. We visit a volcanic activity area on route to Rotorua. A tour highlight is a visit to the Tamaki Village for a great Maori cultural experience and dinner- www.maoriculture.co.nz. Stay at the Blue Lake Holiday Park with time for kayaking and a Gondola and Luge ride in the morning.
DAY 4 – Friday 17 April
A shorter drive today, heading to the Bay of Plenty and the seaside town of Papamoa - http://www.holidaypark.co.nz An easy day with time on the beach or a short drive to Tauranga and Mt Maunganui. Maybe a hike up Mt Maunganui in the afternoon. http://www.mount-maunganui.co.nz
DAY 5 – Saturday 18 April
Depart on the longest drive of the tour heading north and passing through Auckland city on our way north to Orewa. - http://www.orewabeach.co.nz. We will stop along the way.
DAY 6 – Sunday 19 April
Off north to Whangarei stopping at the Waiwera hot pools www.waiwera.co.nz and other places of interest along the way. Stay the night at the Whangarei Top 10 Holiday Park - www.whangareinz.com
DAY 7 – Monday 20 April
A short drive north to Paihia in the Bay of Islands for two action packed days.
On arrival board our Fullers “Hole in the Rock” cruise for a full afternoon trip along the coast -http://www.nzinfo.com/activities/fullers_boi/hole_in_the_rock.shtml and visiting historic Russell. Stay the night in Paihia at The Bay of Islands Holiday Park.
DAY 8 – Tuesday 21 April
The earliest start time of the tour with a 7:30am departure on a bus tour up to Cape Reinga, the northern most point of NZ - http://www.bay-of-islands-nz.com/activities/fullers_boi/cape_reinga_tour.shtml. Arrive back in time for dinner and our second night in Paihia.
DAY 9 – Wednesday 22 April
On the road again in our vans heading west to the Kauri Forests of Northland and staying at Kauri Coast Top 10 Holiday Park near the town of Dargaville for the night. We visit the magnificent kauri tree “Tane Mahuta” -in the Waipoua forest http://www.communities.co.nz/WaipouaForest and go on a night walk to see Kiwi in their natural setting.
DAY 10 – Thursday 23 April
Back to Auckland – some time for shopping, a trip on the harbour and a night time visit up the Sky Tower - http://www.skycityauckland.co.nz/Attractions/Skytower.html
Back to our first night stop at the Manukau Top 10 Holiday Park
DAY 11 – Friday 24 April
A leisurely departure to the airport flying south to the capital city of Wellington - http://www.wellingtonnz.com/about_wellington
We will visit local attractions including Te Papa (the Museum of NZ) - http://www.tepapa.govt.nz/Tepapa/English with time to view a Monet Exhibition and the Colossal Squid! Later we visit Parliament Buildings, the Cable Car and have time for wandering around the city waterfront. Staying right in the central city at the YHA so we can enjoy Wellington by night.
DAY 12 – Saturday 25 April
Our final day on tour and a very significant day for New Zealanders – ANZAC day and to show our respect we will attend the wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in the city. - http://www.rsa.org.nz/remem/anzac_intro.html
